GRADUATE PROGRAM IN CULTURAL STUDIES, MEMORY AND HERITAGE (PROMEP)
Presentation
The Stricto Sensu Graduate Program in Cultural Studies, Memory and Heritage (PROMEP/UEG), at the Professional Master's level, was conceived from the academic trajectory and field of action of the faculty in the History Course of the Cora Coralina Campus of the State University of Goiás. In this regard, its main reference was the production of scientific knowledge and the actions developed by the Archaeology Center; the Memory Center of the State University of Goiás; the Research, Documentation, and Memory Center; the African and Afro-Diasporic Studies Center, and the History Teaching/Learning Laboratory, in partnerships and agreements with museums, archives, schools and other institutions in the City of Goiás.
The theme of cultural heritage was also present in different graduate courses (lato sensu) offered by the History course: History of Brazil and Region, offered in 2000 and reissued in 2002; Cultural Heritage Management offered in 2002; History of Brazil and Region: Culture and Heritage, in 2005; Environment, Cultural Heritage and Tourism, in 2006; Teacher training for Education of Ethnic-Racial Relations: Afro-Brazilian and African History and Culture, in 2017.
The Program consists of a faculty with experience in training professionals to work in the areas of heritage education, management and preservation. It is composed of thirteen (13) professors from the permanent staff of the State University of Goiás, of which seven (7) are from the History Course of the Cora Coralina Campus, and four (04) external professors (permanent and collaborators) whose research and history of action dialogue with PROMEP both in the areas of teaching, research as well as in extension actions, heritage education projects, heritage management and preservation, Regional History, black culture and visualities. Most of these activities are related to and/or performed in the City of Goiás.
The professional Master's Degree in Cultural Studies, Memory and Heritage provides the construction of knowledge, meeting the needs of graduate education, ensuring the participation of Cora Coralina Campus in the larger consolidation program of the State University of Goiás. The Program aims to meet the demands for the search for professional improvement by graduates of the History course, other degrees and also Archaeology, Architecture, Museology, Tourism, Law, Information Science, Library Sciences, Anthropology and areas related to PROMEP research lines. In addition, the Program will contribute to professional training in management, preservation and heritage education involving students, teachers and the community in a progressive process of analysis, appreciation and preservation of Brazilian Cultural Heritage.
Objectives
The Stricto Sensu Graduate Program in Cultural Studies, Memory and Heritage of the State University of Goiás (PROMEP/UEG) has the nature of a professional master's degree and the purpose of educating and training professionals to work in: planning, advising, management, dissemination, evaluation of archaeological, environmental and cultural impact reports; dissemination of cultural assets related to public or private institutions (planning and advisory offices, collections, memory centers, museums, state and private archives); proposals aimed at heritage education and the preservation of tangible and intangible heritage assets and also in scientific research; registration and training in heritage education of professionals who are involved in the development of activities inherent to cultural heritage. Such professionals can work in public or private institutions in the education, leisure, tourism, preservation and research sectors.
PROMEP/UEG aims to:
- qualify professionals in the study and practical application for the exercise of teaching, research and performance activities in themes related to Brazilian Cultural Heritage in the areas of management, dissemination and preservation of heritage, meeting social, professional and organizational demands;
- produce technical and academic knowledge on the management and preservation of cultural heritage within the lines of research offered by the Program's concentration area;
- provide permanent conditions of professionalization, improvement and specialization to graduates in order to meet the regional demand related to studies in the area of cultural heritage;
- establish articulations between teaching, research and extension in the scope of cultural heritage aiming at social insertion with communities and public and private entities in the local and regional context.
