PPEC's lines of teaching and research are focused on “Training teachers in science teaching” (1) and “Methodologies and educational resources for teaching science” (2) . In this context, the specific objectives of the Program are:
The Professional Master's Degree in Science Teaching (PPEC) , inserted in the Area of Concentration in Science Teaching , engages in research aimed at initial and continuing teacher training and methodologies and educational resources for science teaching. The Program is aimed at the preparation and qualification of professionals working in basic and higher education, encompassing the fields of knowledge in the areas of Science, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and the like .
The Program's area of concentration encompasses research with conceptual approaches in the theoretical and epistemological fields of education, history and philosophy of science, pedagogical practices and contexts, teaching practices, teaching-learning processes in formal and non-formal spaces, evaluation, curricula and educational policies, communication and information technologies, teaching materials, investigative approaches, as well as health education, STS education, transversal themes such as environmental education, financial education, inclusion and diversity. It is influenced by the new innovative methodological movements, the approach to the contents and objectives of teaching and the processes of teacher training and continuing teacher training. These dimensions of the Science Teaching area are concatenated in research projects, disciplines, dissertations and educational products.
Therefore, in the context of assessing the quality and adequacy of dissertations completed in the 2017-2020 quadrennium, regarding the Area of Concentration in Science Teaching, we qualitatively consider the dissertations in terms of high adherence to the areas of knowledge in Science, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics . Dissertations with medium adherence are also considered qualitatively when aligned with other areas of knowledge (related areas such as physical education, sexual education, health education, environmental education, financial education), as they bring themes of importance and relevance to cross-cutting themes and enhance the scope of Science Teaching through translational research. This is because it expands the bridges between academic knowledge in Science Teaching for application in educational products and processes in society. Finally, qualitatively considered low-adherence dissertations are dissertations that explore areas of knowledge outside the area of concentration . PPEC is committed to offering conditions to produce knowledge and solutions with always high adherence, but considers the relevance of medium adherence actions by incorporating areas related to Science Teaching.
This line of research aims to discuss issues related to the teaching and learning process in the continuing education of teachers, considering curricular perspectives and pedagogical practices for the construction of concepts in the processes of professional development, contemplating research in the classroom. Within this perspective, we will carry out studies that aim to develop methodologies and strategies for teaching and learning related to basic education and higher education.
This line proposes the study and discussion of studies and research in science teaching addressing the learning processes, the development of didactic materials of experimental and quasi-experimental practices, and the use of new information technologies and communication (ICTs).
The State University of Goiás is located in the Midwest region as a public Higher Education Institution, committed and concerned with offering quality higher education in order to meet the expectations of the population. The internalization of Higher Education promoted by UEG expands access opportunities, promoting regional development and organically linking itself to its multi-campus nature. Already in the act of its creation, it was structured from the grouping of faculties and higher schools, 35 mostly in the area of teacher training. After its creation, it expanded its scope of action, having created new University Units and Poles in the interior of the State.
Despite the wide distribution of degree courses offered by UEG, most municipalities in the State of Goiás have a very large deficit of teachers in the area of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, with social, political and cultural consequences for the populations. Thus, the Graduate Professional Master's Program in Science Teaching (PPEC) presents itself as an alternative to problematize the relationship between theory and practice and enable a rapprochement between the knowledge produced at the university and that produced in basic education. In this sense, the PPEC allows for collaborative work between basic education and the university in the elaboration of processes and products, such as: didactic texts, hypertexts; applications, software, didactic sequences and other teaching tools, without detracting from the debate of reflections in the constant search for improvement and improvement of teaching.
The performance of professors as multipliers, who share their knowledge with other professionals in their field, corroborates the formation of discussion and research groups, aiming at the elaboration of projects to be developed in their contexts. In this scenario, it is believed that the Professional Master's Degree in Science Teaching assumes the task of contributing to the educational policy action provided for in Brazilian legislation. The Master in Science Teaching is located at the Campus of Exact and Technological Sciences of UEG in the city of Anápolis located in the region of the center of Goiás, 48 km away from the capital of Goiás, therefore it serves more specifically the metropolitan region of Goiânia and the region from the center of Goiás, with a population of more than 2 million people. Since 2013, the Professional Master's in Science Teaching has contributed vigorously to the qualification of professionals in the region.
The Professional Master's Degree in Science Teaching (PPEC) at the State University of Goiás aims to contribute to the improvement of the teaching-learning process in the continuing education of teachers, considering curricular perspectives and pedagogical practices. Investigate and develop methodologies and strategies for teaching and learning related mainly to basic education, as well as develop technical products in the area of teaching that can be used by teachers and professionals in formal and non-formal spaces, evaluate didactic materials, experimental practices, and new information and communication technologies to improve Science teaching.
PPEC's lines of teaching and research are “ Teachers' training in Science teaching” and “Methodologies and educational resources for Science teaching” . Research involving Science Teaching in the areas of teacher training and methodological strategies and educational resources are developed within the scope of the State of Goiás with a direct impact on public and private school teachers. The faculty of PPEC is made up of professionals from six UEG campuses, namely: Exact and Technological Sciences – Anápolis, Socio-Economic and Human Sciences – Anápolis, Formosa, Goianésia, Palmeiras de Goiás and Quirinópolis, which facilitates the dissemination of activities developed in the interior of the State of Goiás. In addition, we have the participation of professors from other institutions (IES): University of Brasília, Federal University of Goiás and Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul. The course has six completed classes and 3 classes in progress. PPEC receives master's students from different regions of the State of Goiás and from other states enrolled in the program. PPEC graduates have the profile of actively working at different levels of education, particularly in Basic Education, and contributing to the improvement of Science teaching. The Program is aligned and adheres to the Area of Concentration in Science Teaching , coherently aligned with its lines of research . do The projects developed by teachers and students reinforce the program's profile of interaction with society and the job market, with interventions in schools and the elaboration of materials and processes, through educational products , which have a relevant impact on society , contributing for the improvement of Science teaching in the State of Goiás and in Brazil.
The Graduate Professional Master's Program in Science Teaching (PPEC/UEG) constantly adjusts through its Strategic Planning to ensure high adherence with the CAPES Teaching area . According to Area Document 46 (Education), the Teaching Area is part of the Large Multidisciplinary Area, having been one of the four areas created on June 6, 2011, through CAPES Ordinance 83/2011.
Therefore, PPEC essentially engages in the development of research of a translational perspective. In this sense, the Program's pedagogical, academic and institutional perspective seeks to promote studies that move between basic science and the application of the knowledge produced. Furthermore, below is the knowledge produced within the scope of PPEC as a result of the effort to build bridges between academic knowledge generated in research in education and teaching for its application in educational products and processes aimed particularly at the demands of Goiás society, as well as in meeting the needs regional and national.
Sensitivity to these demands comes from the target audience of the Program aimed at education professionals , mainly in basic education , with high capillarity in the state of Goiás , serving all regions of the State as well as other regions outside the state . The perception of these demands is enhanced by structuring the Program's lines of research and thematic axes .
